LOAN FORGIVENESS INFORMATION: The United States Department of Education (USDE) Teacher Loan Forgiveness Forbearance Program authorizes up to $17,500 in loan forgiveness to eligible highly qualified math, science, and special education teachers. The loan forgiveness will provide substantial relief for existing eachers and an incentive for prospective teachers to teach in subjects and schools that have difficulty hiring highly qualified candidates.

The loan forgivenss is available to teachers: at schools that are at 31%+ free and reduced lunch and who are new borrowers - no outstandiong loan balances prior to October 1, 1998, who borrowed elibible loand prior to October 1, 2005. New Federal Loan Forgiveness for School SLPs and Audiologists - The new loan forgiveness program under the Higher Education Amendments and College Opportunity Act of 2008 (H.R. 4137), would reauthorize and revise programs under the Higher Education Act (HEA) to encourage audiology and SLP graduates to accept positions in school-based settings. Up to $2,000 per year, not to exceed five years, and $10,000 in additional outstanding loans, could be forgiven. NEVADA SIGNING BONUS: The state of Nevada offers a one-time signing bonus of $2,000 to teachers who are new to teaching or who are new to teaching in Nevada. The signing bonus is paid directly to the teacher after he/she has taught a minimum of 30 days with the school district. For more information contact Human Resources at (775) 273-7819.
