Notice of Destruction of Special Education Records

Notice Date:  April 3, 2019

Requests for records must be made by close of business on June 6, 2019.

 

Attention Former Students and/or Eligible Parents: Special Education records which have been collected by Pershing County School District (PCSD) related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of six years after Special Education services have ended for the student.  Special Education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, moves from the district, and/or completes his or her educational program at age 22.

 

This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of PCSD intent to destroy the Special Education records of students who were no longer receiving Special Education services as of or prior to the 2008-2009 school year.  These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the student (adult) or eligible parent/ guardian notifies the school district otherwise.

 

With proof of identity, the student (adult) or eligible parent/guardian may request the records in person, by mail or by telephone

In requesting special education records scheduled for destruction the following information is necessary:

 

  • Student’s full legal name
  • Student’s date of birth
  • Date services ended or date graduated (if known)
  • Name and relationship of person picking up records
  • Contact information (phone number, email & mailing address)

 

Valid picture ID must be presented at the time the records are picked up.
